Department of Homeland Security Immigration Organizations
The Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) has merged into the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Although the INS as an organization dissolved, the critical missions once carried out by the INS continue under DHS. The legacy INS has merged into three Organizations under DHS. Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) CIS promotes national security, continues to eliminate immigration adjudications backlogs, and implements solutions for improving immigration customer services. Occupations include Adjudications Officer and Asylum Officer.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) ICE brings together approximately 14,000 Federal employees who focus on the enforcement of immigration and customs laws within the United States, the protection of specified federal buildings, and air and marine enforcement. Occupations include investigative, detention and deportation officers.
